The Educare Trust is a non-profit agency registered under the Indian Trust Act, 1882. It was formed in 2002 by Professor James
Tooley of the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, and other members associated with private unaided schools in India.
The Educare Trust
carries out research as well as assists private schools in low-income areas to improve their educational standards and facilities.
This it achieves by offering several service to private unaided schools. These services include the running of a loan scheme
for schools to improve their infrastructure and facilities, a scholarship scheme to help the poorest children to attend private
schools, and the implementation of an English literacy programme – Jolly Phonics, training teachers and providing curriculum
materials.
The Trust is advised by an International team from the University of Newcastle
Upon Tyne, England and is based in the city of Hyderabad, Andhra
Pradesh, India.
